Glitch Makes Airline Sell 3-Hour Flights for $1.40
One of China's biggest airlines accidentally sold flights for as low as 10 yuan, or about $1.40, after a technical glitch in its system.

The glitch, which was reported to have lasted for around two hours, meant that China Southern Airlines customers could buy tickets to and from the city of Chengdu for very low prices.

For example, flights from Chengdu to Beijing, which take about three hours and usually cost around $55 to $70, were being sold for just $1.40.

And three-hour flights from Chengdu to Shanghai, which were also being sold for $1.40, can sell for as much as $275, according to The Times of India.

The glitch affected the China Southern Airlines app, and some other ticket platforms like Trip.com.

It isn't known how many low-price flights were sold as a result of the glitch, but the company said it would honor all of the tickets at the price they were bought for.

Customers will still have to pay an extra $15 for airport and fuel fees. But as long as they were paid for during the system glitch, the low-price tickets are all valid, the company posted on Weibo.

This isn't the first time a technical glitch has led to cheap flights, but accidentally low-priced tickets don't always end up being honored.

For example, earlier this year Japanese airline ANA accidentally sold first class and business class flights for up to 97% cheaper than usual, because of a mistake on the company's Vietnamese website.
But these flights were not honored, and were refunded and canceled instead.
